EveryPlate is a low-cost meal kit program costing as little as $4.99 a serving. The program focuses on simple recipes and inexpensive ingredients. EveryPlate is owned by the same company as HelloFresh, GreenChef and Factor, and the recipes are similar.
EveryPlate is for people looking for a mealkit program to save time and money. It’s great for families since the cost per serving is less than other meal kit programs, and they offer many family-friendly comfort foods. Because of its low cost, it’s also great for students. They even offer a student discount.
Here are a few meals that we enjoyed.
Spiced chicken breast with creamy garlic sauce, roasted carrots and couscous
Meatballs in a delicious gravy served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans
Pan-seared pork chops with a tangy fig jam sauce, served with broccoli and crispy potatoes
The recipes were quite good although I got tired of some of the same ingredients. I noticed that the regular (non-premium) recipes pretty much all have chicken, ground beef and pork for the meat, and carrots, zucchini, green beans and broccoli for the veggie. I also got pretty tired of couscous and potatoes as the side. I found that I was ready to move back to HelloFresh so that I could get more variety.
Some recipes take as little as 15 minutes to make, but most recipes take about 30-45 minutes. If you’re looking for quick and easy recipes, you can select the “Quick and Easy” option when ordering to select recipes that take 30 minutes or less.
EveryPlate, and all meal kit programs, will definitely save you time. It saves you from having to look through cookbooks or search online for recipes, plan what ingredients you need and go to the grocery store. You don’t even need to select your meals unless you want to. After you’ve set your preferences, your meals will be automatically selected. If you choose to, however, you can look through the meal choices and select the ones that you’re interested in.
The recipe cards are super easy to follow and involve simple cooking techniques. The ingredients are pictured on the front of the card so that you can pull what you need for the recipe out of the box. Each recipe is broken down into five or six steps with an image to illustrate each step.
Shipping is a flat $9.99 per delivery (as of the time of writing this article). They deliver seven days a week so you can select the most convenient day for you. I received a text from the shipping company as soon as the box was delivered so I could run home and bring the box into my house.
EveryPlate can deliver to most of the continental United States. When registering they will ask for your zip code to determine if you are in their delivery area.
The packaging for the EveryPlate meal kits is pretty standard. It comes in a big cardboard box with insulation (brown paper or a plastic bubble wrap) and one or two ice blocks to keep it cold. The meats are packaged right next to the ice blocks, and the other ingredients are all in a brown cardboard box with handles. When my box arrived, I stuck the meat and the ingredients box into the fridge.
The carboard can easily be recycled in your curbside bin. If they used brown paper for your insulation, as they did on my first shipment, that is also easily recycled in. The plastic bubble wrap may or may not be able to be recycled in your area. Unfortunately, where I live, they only recycle plastics with numbers 1 and 2. The ice block was covered in #4 plastic which is not recyclable in my area, so I threw the whole ice block in the trash.
EveryPlate doesn’t have as many dietary options as some of the other meal kit programs like GreenChef. They offer the following options.
EveryPlate can help you lose weight by keeping track of exactly how many calories are in your meals. You can select “Nutrish & Delish” recipes to limit your selections to low-calorie (650 calories or less) meals.
EveryPlate makes it easy to ensure that you get healthy foods in your diet. Each of the meals included at least one veggie. Also, you can select the “Nutrish & Delish” meal option to make sure that all of your meals are low-calorie.
Ordering from EveryPlate is easy. Select your meal preferences (Meat & Veggie, Veggie, Family-friendly, Quick & Easy, Nutrish & Delish), how many meals a week you would like and how many servings. Then enter your name, address and payment information, and your meals will automatically be selected. If you want to select your own meals, you can see what other meal choices there are and swap them out.
The price depends on how many meals and servings you order each week. If you select the six meals with four servings each option, it costs as little as $4.99 per serving. If you select the minimum which is three meals of two servings, it costs $6.49 a serving. I selected three meals of four servings each at $5.49 a serving. Pricing may have changed since the time of my review.
EveryPlate will probably save you money because there is minimal food waste since they send you only what you need for the recipes. Also, EveryPlate is the lowest cost meal kit program available at as little as $4.99 a serving. It’s hard to even get a fast-food meal at that price, and EveryPlate meals are much healthier than fast food.
